Baptism Day

Grandpa and Grandma Turley attended Grant's baptism.  They would have been in their 60's in this picture.  Grant was baptized in Prescott at the Ruth Street chapel.

Grant was baptized by his father, Gerald Turley.  Gerald was the bishop in Prescott when the Ruth Street chapel was built.  Bishop Turley had an artist paint the mural you can see in the picture.  The artist was not LDS so Bishop Turley had her paint a picture of Christ to see her work prior to this mural.  That picture of Christ is still at the home in Prescott with Aunt Gerry.  The artist painted Christ's eyes "flat" so that they would be looking at you no matter where you were in the room.  Bishop Turley would have people walk across the room and the eyes of Christ would follow them. He then would tell them that is the way it is in life, Christ is always watching you.  As a note, Gerry was the first person baptized in this font in the Ruth Street chapel.  She postponed her baptism a little so that she could be the first person in the new chapel.
