Gerry & baby Carolyn

Gerry is sitting on Mom and Dad's bed holding her newly arrived little sister, Carolyn.  Growing up Sunday mornings were the best.  We would go in to Mom and Dad's room to play.  Dad would lift us up into the air with his legs.  He would throw us around on the bed.  They would also read us the comic strips from the local paper.

What is interesting in this picture is the bandanna Gerry is wearing around her head.  Growing up now we would not call it a bandanna because it would be considered politically incorrect.  Gerry would wear this bandanna to hold in place the bobby pins she has in her hair.  Mom would curl the girls hair Saturday night for Sunday the next day.

In the picture below, you can see Gerry's curls, from having to sleep on those bobby pins in her hair the night before.  I would believe that this is the Sunday that Carolyn was given her name and father's blessing at church.

A good view of the neighborhood west of the Flora Street house.
