James Gerald Johnson Jr and Cleotha Helen Coombs were married on the 27th of May in 1941 in Mesa, Arizona. Gerald was just shy of 22 years old and his bride was 19 years old at the time. Cleotha was born on the 25th of January in 1922 in Central, Arizona to William Burnard and Martha Webster Coombs. Central, Arizona is a few miles northwest of Safford, Arizona. Both of them came from small Mormon communities in southern Arizona. Cleotha's parents were from Utah. Her father was born the 21st of March in 1875 in Joseph, Sevier County, Utah and passed away on the 19th of July in 1945 in Central, Arizona when she was only 23 years old, just 4 years after marrying Gerald. Her mother was born on the 14th of January in 1884 in Levan, Juab County, Utah and passed away on the 5th of March in 1971 in Safford, Arizona.
